First published in 1980, the model of human occupation (MOHO) grew out of Dr. Gary Kielhofner's master's thesis and practice in the mid 1970s. While Dr. Kielhofner has remained the primary person working on MOHO, it has always been the result of collaborative efforts. The 6 th International Institute on Kielhofner’s Model of Human Occupation explored the versatility of MOHO across diverse cultures and practice settings. Through presentations, discussions, and interactive workshops, the institute provided the opportunity to engage with MOHO theory, research, and practice as it is used around the world. The Model of Human Occupations (MOHO) is a model that describes how humans generate and modify their occupations in interaction with environment, which presents a dynamic open cycle system of human actions.

The authors of this study apply the six steps of the therapeutic reasoning process as outlined in MOHO to three children to illustrate and apply the concepts for clinicians.

Concepts relevant to human occupation are integrated into this framework. This study examined therapists' perceived impact of using an occupation-focused model in mental health practice. The findings of this study provided promising results. Findings suggest that the utilization of MOHO increases service for clients and professional stature and identity for therapists.
